Upcoming Industrial Policy of Manipur to focus on MSMEs and artisans

Imphal, July 28 (KNN) The new industrial policy of Manipur incorporating Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) as well as large scale industries is ready, said Commerce and Industry Minister Nemcha Kipgen on Wednesday.

The existing Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy 2017 expired on March 31, 2022.

She said this during the discussion of demand for grants for Textiles, Commerce and Industry department at assembly session.

Issues such as lack of policy to promote MSME and large-scale industries, non-provision of loom for weavers and lack of training activities were raised by opposition members K Meghachandra and Th Lokeshwar.

Responding to the question, the Commerce Minister confirmed that the state government has formulated a new industrial policy which will assist MSME and large industries.

To support local artisans and weavers the government is promoting sale and exhibition of state's handloom products in different cities, she added.

The final draft of the policy will be tabled before the cabinet soon.  (KNN Bureau)
