Four more products get GI tag in UP, total tally goes up to 52
Varanasi, June 15 (KNN) The tally of Geographical Indication (GI) certified products from Uttar Pradesh has gone up to 52 with four more products getting a GI tag, reported TOI.
The four products to get a GI tag include Baghpat Home Furnishing, Amroha Dholak, Kalpi Handmade paper and Barabanki Handloom.
As per reports, the GI tag was granted to these goods on Wednesday.
Padma Shri awarded GI expert Rajni Kant, whose organization Human Welfare Association (HWA) provided technical facilitation to get the certification, told TOI that the applications for the GI registration of these four products were sent to GI Registry, Chennai in collaboration with NABARD, Uttar Pradesh in 2019 and 2020.
“After a long legal and technical process, all these four ODOP products got GI status on June 14, and now they have been included in the intellectual property of the country,” he added.
According to Kant, Kalpi handmade paper is the first to get the GI tag in handmade paper category. (KNN Bureau)
