Ghaziabad Industries claim Rs 500cr daily losses due to prolonged power cuts, flash floods

Ghaziabad, July 29 (KNN) Approximately 1,400 industries located in Sahibabad reported daily losses of Rs 500 crore during the past week due to floods from the Hindon River, which resulted in nearly a 50 per cent reduction in production.

While some factories suffered machinery damage from the floodwaters, others had to temporarily close down due to prolonged outages.

Tronica City, Sahibabad, and the GT Road vicinity are among the areas where industries experienced a decline in production. These regions are home to factories engaged in heavy iron, steel, plastic molding, and garment manufacturing.

Chiranjeet Singh of the Sahibabad Industries Association told TOI that Power cuts are causing massive losses in Sahibabad site. Some 1,400 industries have been facing losses of over Rs 500 crore daily.

“The outages have been mostly due to the disruption in supply from the Kanha Upvan substation, which has been shut since Sunday after floodwaters entered its premises,” he said.

Singh explained that the power cuts had led to delays in production and several industries had failed to meet orders. Moreover, factories that relied on generators for supply had to shell out extra on diesel.

“Labourers, meanwhile, had to be paid wages even if production was hit, he added.

Rakesh Aneja, chairperson of the Indian Industries Association in Ghaziabad, said that they are being faced with over a dozen spells of power cuts every day.

“They last for anything between 20 and 40 minutes. But they have widespread consequences. Every time there is an outage, all the machines have to be restarted using generators. This scales up the production cost,” he added.

The floodwaters have also damaged machinery, adding to the losses of factory owners who are trying to come out of their pandemic misery.  (KNN Bureau)
