Government Unveils Growth Plan to Boost Uttar Pradesh’s Dairy Sector

Lucknow, Sep 9 (KNN) Uttar Pradesh’s Livestock and Dairy Development Minister, Dharampal Singh, unveiled a comprehensive plan to accelerate growth in the state’s dairy industry during an investor workshop.

The government is preparing to attract large-scale investments through tax exemptions, financial grants, and business-friendly policies, ensuring that Uttar Pradesh continues to lead India’s dairy sector.

Currently, the state produces 1,062 lakh liters of milk per day, contributing nearly 16% of the country’s total production.

Singh emphasised that the initiative will significantly improve farmers’ income, create new employment opportunities, and contribute to Uttar Pradesh’s vision of becoming a $1 trillion economy.

Supporting this mission, Principal Secretary Amit Kumar Ghosh announced that recent Goods and Services Tax (GST) changes are designed to boost the sector.

As per the new rules, UHT milk and packaged paneer have been made GST-free, while rates on butter, ghee, cheese, and ice cream have been cut to 5%, down from the earlier 12–18%.

These reductions are expected to make dairy products more affordable while stimulating growth in processing and exports.

The long-term vision is ambitious: to triple milk production, generate over one crore rural jobs, and establish Uttar Pradesh as a major global dairy exporter by 2047.

Officials highlighted that sustained policy support, along with active participation from private players, will be critical in achieving these goals.
