New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 which the colleges also need to implement envisage a proactive role towards skills, employability and entrepreneurship which was found to be critical for quadrupling the Meerut economy.

The management committee members of the four colleges namely Meerut College, D.N. PG College, Ismail girls PG college and Kanohar Lal girls PG college discussed the role they could play in view of NEP.

One of the major problems emerged in the discussion was wide differences in the present system of education planning and delivery and the expectation of NEP and the need to impulse the economy of the district.

To emphasize the importance of NEP and its vision, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself convened a workshop of the Vice Chancellors of Universities in Varanasi this year. He had stressed the need for Universities and colleges to ‘know your customer’.

To make their students market ready, the NEP could have built in processes for colleges and universities to interact with their customers and plan their curricula and pedagogy accordingly, a report released following the PM workshop had highlighted.

The members of management committees were in unison to work and implement the spirit of NEP encompassing focus on job and labour market, imparting of employable skills, importance of soft skills, internship in industries, innovation and entrepreneurship.

The management committees agreed to meet regularly and develop a common agenda to achieve objectives of NEP and economic growth of Meerut. (KNN Bureau)
