New Hathras City Plan To Boost Hing and Metal Craft Clusters

Hathras, Jun 10 (KNN) Hathras, known for its traditional production of hing (asafoetida), gulal (coloured powder), and metal crafts, is set to undergo major development with a new city planned to support its unique industries.

The Uttar Pradesh government is preparing a comprehensive master plan covering 358 villages in the district, aiming to provide better residential and industrial infrastructure.

This new city will focus on developing industrial hubs and offering enhanced market access to local artisans and producers. Improved road connectivity, power lines, sewer lines, water supply, and other essential services will be developed.

The goal is to promote local handicrafts and food products on a national and international scale, signalling a new era for Hathras’s economy.

Arunvir Singh, CEO of YEIDA (Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority), stated that the plan includes linking the newly developed city with existing infrastructure networks like the Yamuna Expressway.

Traditional industries such as metal crafts will receive a major boost through modernized infrastructure, helping local artisans connect with foreign markets.

Currently, most of the 358 villages in the district remain underdeveloped. The development plan includes residential zones, industrial areas, and necessary services such as schools and public transport.

Farmers will also benefit from better access to agricultural markets and processing centres, enhancing their reach and income.

The entire project is seen as a step toward sustainable rural-urban integration, economic upliftment, and the revival of heritage crafts. Local authorities are now working with planning agencies to finalize the master plan and begin implementation.
