UP Govt Acquires Land From Defunct Textile Mills For Industrial Development

Lucknow, Mar 15 (KNN) In a strategic move to expand its industrial land bank, the Uttar Pradesh government has earmarked 450 acres from six closed textile mills.

This acquisition is part of a broader initiative to create a substantial land reserve of 150,000 acres by 2027 for industrial development.

The land parcels, which will be acquired by the UP State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA), belong to defunct mills under the UP Cooperative Spinning Mills Federation.

Located in Sitapur, Fatehpur, Prayagraj, Ghazipur, Farrukhabad, and Bulandshahr districts, these facilities have remained non-operational for over two decades.

"The availability of industrial land is the key in achieving UP's USD 1 trillion economy target. The state is making all efforts to increase the land inventory for industrial development," a senior government official stated.

UP Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi emphasised that repurposing these land parcels would generate new opportunities for economic growth and employment in the state.

Sources indicate that additional defunct spinning and yarn mills, collectively spanning over 1,000 acres, could potentially be repurposed in the future.

These mills are spread across multiple districts including Meerut, Hardoi, Jhansi, Prayagraj, Banda, Ballia, Mau, Rae Bareli, Barabanki, Amroha, Bareilly, Ghazipur, Fatehpur, Farrukhabad, Sitapur, Bijnor, Sant Kabirnagar and Bulandshahr.

As part of its ambitious plan to become a preferred investment destination in South Asia, Uttar Pradesh aims to acquire approximately 96,000 acres of industrial land within the next 2-3 years.

This acquisition will supplement the current inventory of about 54,000 acres, resulting in a comprehensive industrial land bank of around 150,000 acres by 2027.

The development of this land bank will be a collaborative effort involving Upsida, the industrial development authorities in Noida and Greater Noida, Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority, and Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed these authorities to accelerate the processes of land acquisition and allocation to investors, expressing confidence that the initiative will benefit both large industries and small and medium enterprises.
