Dehradun, Mar 18 (KNN)  Ahead of the Char Dham Yatra to begin in the next three months, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat’s focus is on small and medium enterprises (SMEs).  He has asked the state administration to prepare a special policy for the sector which would be unveiled after the general elections.

Char Dham consists of a spiritual expedition that includes visits to four shrines namely Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinat, located in the Himalayan foothills of Uttarakhand.

“The chief minister has asked the people in his government to prepare a special policy for the MSME sector,” said President Industries Association of Uttarakhand (IAU) adding that the industry associations including his have already submitted a draft policy for the MSME sector to the government.

“The government is definitely working on the rehabilitation of the industrial units in the state. They have come out with a purchase policy for the state units,” Gupta added.
“The government has even asked the banks to give additional funds to the SMEs,” he added.

The maximum number of micro units depends upon the tourism in the state, especially during the Char Dham Yatra, “Nothing specific is happening for them. Till now nothing much has been done for them,” Gutpa said.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand is gearing up for the Char Dham Yatra with control rooms, help line numbers etc.

Speaking about the micro units depending on tourism for their livelihood, District Tourism Development Officer for Uttarakhand Shiv Kumar Gupta told KNN, “Basically, the government is putting up the infrastructure for parking areas, accommodation, drinking water facilities, supply of foods, etc.”

Further, the tourism department has set up “the ‘Yatra Control Rooms’ in coordination with the disaster management department; mobile health units would be established every 10 to 20 km on the yatra route.  The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) will establish more towers on the route for better mobile phone connectivity, more help line numbers will be given, and help desks will be set up for the pilgrims,” Gupta said.

Emergency helicopter services would also be provided if the yatra routes are blocked by landslips. (KNN/SD)
