Kolkata, Aug 21 (KNN) West Bengal has bagged as many as 13 business deals with Singapore and is also planning to set up a nodal office there to promote global investments, according to the state chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

Banerjee has been in Singapore since Sunday to explore business opportunities for the state with investments in IT, information technology enabled service (ITES), logistics, city infrastructure and amusement parks.

“Today was a milestone occasion for West Bengal. This morning, we had a business summit of more than 200 officials and industrialists, all of whom have showed much passion and determination to make West Bengal achieve greater heights. A promising 13 business dealings have commenced between Singapore and West Bengal,” she said on the social network site Facebook.

“I am confident that in the near future we will have a stronger and more dynamic business relationship with Singapore. This is a part of our bigger dream to have local roots with global pursuits, and make our 'Biswa Bangla' brand resonate beyond our borders,” she added.

While addressing hundreds of businessmen at the West Bengal Business Forum yesterday, she announced the setting up of a nodal office there to promote global investments into West Bengal.

"To facilitate your investment, we will open a nodal office of our Industrial Development Corporation in Singapore," Banerjee said.

It would operate round the clock and seven days a week, said the Chief Minister, adding "you can reach us on a telephone call, within a short time".

Banerjee said a Business Focus Centre in Kolkata would also become operational in 18 months to promote investment, trade and cooperation between Singapore and West Bengal. (KNN/SD)
