West Bengal Govt planning to host international business summit in Digha in December

New Delhi, Aug 27 (KNN) The West Bengal Government is all set to host an international business summit in Digha in December this year. The tentative dates are December 9 to 13.

While business representatives from Asian countries will be invited for the summit.

While announcing this during the inauguration of Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in Digha, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that Digha has the potential to become a major business tourism centre. The convention centre also has a hotel for hosting guests on the same grounds.

The idea behind this initiative, according to senior government officials, is to turn Digha into a major seaside business tourism resort in Asia, similar to ones in Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia.

According to a media report, Sixty-five hotels are currently in different stages of construction and planning in and around Digha. A big port is being built in Tajpur. A short distance from Digha is Haldia, one of the major industrial centres of the State.

Then, there is the 7-km long Marine Drive being built there by the State Government that will connect Digha, Mandarmani, Tajpur, Shankarpur and Udaipur on a string, facilitating travel and tourism to a large extent.
