West Bengal Govt to renovate Sericulture Museum; make it an attractive tourist destination

Kolkata, Apr 17 (KNN) In order to showcase the unique collection sericulture related artefacts in the state, West Bengal Government is planning to renovate the Sericulture Museum and make it an attractive tourist destination.

The office of the Directorate of Textiles (Sericulture) of the Bengal Government on Ganesh Chandra Avenue in Kolkata contains a unique collection of sericulture-related artefacts, many of them priceless, comprising the Sericulture Museum.

Now plans are afoot to completely renovate the museum and make it a tourist attraction, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee led All India Trinamool Congress has said.

Among the priceless artefacts are about 150-year-old silk dresses, rare bamboo articles, beautiful showpieces made of shells, beautiful hand-woven sarees, some of which even have workings in gold.

The museum contains the first Durga idol based on a theme. It also contains various archaeological objects and other stuff.

The State Agriculture Department is doing the renovation. Besides tourists, this treasure trove is also expected to benefit students of history.
