Kolkata, Dec 13 (KNN) In order to mitigate the adverse impacts of urbanisation of the surrounding area and re-establish a healthy self-sustaining eco-system, the West Bengal government proposes to set up an Eco Tourism Park at Banarhat in the state on the public private partnership (PPP) mode.

Eco park also known as ‘Prakriti Tirtha’ has a vision of sustainable development in order to create a balance between ecological regeneration, resource conservation, and optimization with the need to create a recreational urban open space.

The park to be setup by the Department of Micro and Small Scale Enterprises and Textiles, is spread over an area of 100 acres along the National Highway 31C near Banarhat Tea Garden, about 92 kilometres from Siliguri.

The site is strategically located and has a very appealing view of the tea estates and the Himalayas.

The site has a frontage of over 600 Meters on National Highway.  It also has access from the rear through a State Highway (Dbita Road) ensuring best utilization of the land and all the components to have excellent accessibility as per requirement.

For the implementation of the project, WBSIDC will form a joint venture company (SPV) with the selected private partner.

In this context, the West Bengal Small Industries Development Corporation Limited (WBSIDCL) seeks bids from private firms for the formation of SPV, for conceptualization, development, management, marketing and operation of the project.

The SPV would be required to develop the master plan for the project along with its basic infrastructure required to facilitate the entire project site and all the components to be developed in the Eco Tourism Park.

Some of the components proposed to be developed under the project are - convention centre, 5 and 3 star resorts, day centre for picnic, amusement park, budget resort, crafts village, youth hostel, and hospitality management / training centre / institute.

WBSIDC was set up in 1961 for extending support and promotion of small scale industries (SSI) in the state under the Department of Cottage and Small Scale Industries, Government of West Bengal. It helps SSI units with well diversified activities of industrial and commercial estates all over the state.

In 2012, the first Eco-tourism Park was inaugurated at Rajarhat in the state.  (KNN/SD)
