Indore, Feb 13 (KNN) As a boost to exports of agri and horticultural products in Madhya Pradesh, Indore airport will soon have world class centre for perishable cargo such as fruits and vegetables.

An initiative of MP Warehousing and Logistics Corporation, the cargo centre for perishable cargo will be set up at Devi Ahilya Bai International Airport, Indore on PPP basis.

The estimated cost of the project is Rs 3.00 crore. The Madhya Pradesh Warehousing and Logistic Corporation has identified the site with an approximate area of 1500 sqm earmarked at the airport.

In this context, it has invited bids from the established and reputed consultants who have been involved in preparation of a project relating to the entire cold chain for fruits, vegetables and other commercial commodities for a full appreciation of the logistics connected with the centre for perishable cargo.

The consultant must have experience of providing consultancy services right from preparation of feasibility report and DPR to the commissioning of the project at least for one work of Centre for Perishable Cargo at any place in India or abroad.

Madhya Pradesh is endowed with rich forest wealth. Out of a total geographical area of 3,08,252 Sq kms of the state, 31 per cent of the area is classified as forest area.

There are many important Non wood forest Products (NWFP) found in the forests eg. Tendu leaves or Bidi leaves, Sal Seed, Chebulic Myrobolan or Harra, Gum, Chironji, flower and seeds of Mahua and flowers, seeds, bark and roots of various plant species.

Tendu leaves, Sal seed and Kullu Gum are nationalised forest produce whereas the other NWFP are non-nationalised.  These non-nationalised NWFP can be collected and traded freely.

In order to give benefits to forest dwellers in collection and trade of forest produce, the Madhya Pradesh State Minor Forest Produce (Trading and Development) Co-operative Federation was formed in 1984. This Federation co-ordinates collection and processing of Tendu leaves, Sal Seed, and Kullu Gum through Primary Forest Produce Co-operative Societies in the districts of the State which are forest produce areas and organises disposal of these produce.

In addition, other non-nationalised NWFP are also being collected and traded by the Primary Forest Produce Co-operative Societies.   (KNN/ES)
