WTC promotes MUDRA Yojna in Goa to fulfil financial needs of MSMEs

Goa, June 30 (KNN) With an objective to provide micro finances to MSMEs in Goa, World Trade Centre (WTC) organised an event ‘Microfinance: A game changer for financial inclusion'.

Talking to KNN, Ambika Dhakendar, Director, WTC Goa, said that “There are a lot of people in Goa who want to avail the micro finance. So, we organise various events to make people aware of such schemes and to help them avail finances. Through these programmes we want to reach not only the MSMEs in cities, but also to the unbanked sector.”

She continued “MSMEs here did not have any idea about the MUDRA bank, and the schemes which are available to them for start-ups. So, through our programmes we are disseminating this important information about the same.

We want the MSMEs to trust and have confidence on the MUDRA bank,” she added.

The President also said that “This is one way we are supporting the MSME sector in Goa. Plus, we have started a ‘Make in India’ series of programmes here.”

“Our first event was inspiring entrepreneurs, in which we made people to know about our partner organisations like the incribation centre, which is in Goa. Another event was trade services. We are trying to get more and more people on board to grab the available opportunities

If the small time vendors want to take working capital loans, they can do so with the help of a Mudra Debit Card”, Dhakendar said.

The MUDRA has been a success in Goa. The Mudra Yojana state-wise report from Mudra bank states that the amount sanctioned in 2015-2016 for Goa stood at 399.33 crore out of which 376.04 crore had already been disbursed. There were 45,471 applicants for loans under this scheme indicating that the average loan size per application amounted to 82,700.

For 2016-17, Rs 40.89 crore had been sanctioned out of which Rs 38.71 had been released to 3, 838 applicants.

“WTC is an international trade body. We have around 300 centres around the globe. We also provide an international platform to the local businesses here. There are a lot of international events that the WTC organises every year.

We are thinking to organise an International IT Summit somewhere in Europe till the end of 2016. If everything works out, WTC can take the delegation there. It will benefit some 200 IT MSMEs set up in Goa”, she said. (KNN/FA)
