DGFT relaxes norms for Bamboo exports from India

New Delhi, June 26 (KNN) The Ministry of Commerce has permitted export of Muli Bamboo and bamboo products, with some exceptions, made from bamboo obtained from legal sources.

The export of Muli Bamboo has been allowed till March 31, 2019.

In a notification, Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has said, “Export of Muli Bamboo till March 3, 2019, and bamboo products (except bamboo charcoal, bamboo pulp and unprocessed bamboo shoots), made from bamboo obtained from legal sources has been permitted.

DGFT explained that all the Muli Bamboo obtained from legal sources are permitted for export subject to proper documentation/ Certificate of Origin (CoO) and compliance of transit rule of concerned State Forest Department for transportation.

DGFT said the CoO shall be issued by concerned State Forest Department from where Muli Bamboo has been procured by the exporter.

Also, bamboo products made from bamboo obtained from legal sources (except bamboo charcoal, bamboo pulp and unprocessed bamboo shoots), will also be permitted for exports with proper documentation/ Certificate of Origin (CoO) providing that bamboo product has been made from bamboo obtained from legal sources.

In this case, the CoO shall be issued by the concerned State Forest Department/ Agriculture Department from where bamboo has been procured by the purchaser of making handicrafts/ machine made products.

There is a negligible export of bamboo from India. India's bamboo exports in 2016-17 was only USD 0.05 million (about Rs 32 lakh). (KNN Bureau)
