Industrial activities is at standstill due to frequent power failures, MSMEs incurring heavy losses: BBIA

Jammu, May 27 (KNN) The MSME industrialists in Bari Brahmana area in Jammu have raised concerns over poor power condition due to which the units are incurring heavy losses.

A meeting of Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA) was held under the presidentship of Lalit Mahajan during which the members raised serious concerns over Power Development Department’s failure to supply 24 hours uninterrupted power to the industry.

“In spite of repeated reminders to the Concerned Chief Engineers, no action has been taken by the Department  to restore the 24 Hours Uninterrupted Power Supply to the Industrial Sector, as announced by the Deputy Chief  Minister, which shows the casual attitude of the Department towards the Industrial Sector which is working in spite of all the odds,” Mahajan said.

All is not well at present, as the units located in the Bari Brahmana Industrial Area are suffering very badly due to unscheduled power curtailment resulting disturbance in the production process, he added.

BBIA members said whenever they contacted the concerned officials to know the reasons for the frequent breakdowns in the Power Supply, the lame excuses are always given by the Department that due to Overheating of the Transformers, Old and Obsolete equipments at Grid Stations/ Receiving Station, the Breakdown has Occurred.

BBIA said the department has failed to provide the requisite funds for the Repair and Maintenance of the Gird/Receiving Station at Bari Brahmana in  spite of the fact that Bari Brahmana Industrial Complex is contributing  Rs. 140 Crores annually  for the power supply to the Industrial units and if the Department spends One percent of the Revenue for the Repair and Maintenance of the Stations,  the same can be easily recovered supplying the Power on regular basis.

BBIA has appealed the Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Kumar Singh who is also the Power Minister and the Industries & Commerce Minister Chander Prakash to intervene into the matter and issue immediate orders  for the restoration of  24 hours Uninterrupted Power Supply to the Industrial Sector of Bari Brahmana.

BBIA has also urged the Ministers to issue necessary instruction to provide requisite funds for the Repair and Maintenance of the Grid/Receiving Stations with the replacement of Old Infrastructure to   resolve the issue on priority basis.
