India Proposes BRICS Capacity-Building Centres, DPI Repository For Digital Transformation

New Delhi, Sep 12 (KNN) India has proposed setting up capacity-building centres for BRICS countries to develop a future-ready workforce, along with a digital public infrastructure (DPI) repository to facilitate knowledge sharing and digital transformation among member states.

The proposals were discussed at the 12th BRICS Communications Ministers Meeting, with India also suggesting voluntary, demand-driven pilot projects to deploy DPI solutions across BRICS countries.

Focus On Digital Transformation
The proposed DPI repository would showcase best practices, open platforms and successful DPI models developed by BRICS countries, enabling members to share knowledge and support innovation, reported Business Standard.

The pilot projects would involve countries with established DPI capabilities supporting other members in addressing context-specific digital transformation challenges. Participation would be voluntary and based on demand.

BRICS countries have also been encouraged to contribute to and benefit from shared resources, publications and technical materials under the initiative.

Four Key Areas
The communications ministers’ discussions focused on four broad areas: sustainable and resilient digital and information and communication technology (ICT) ecosystems; cybersecurity and trustworthy ICT; digital skilling and capacity building; and innovation, startups and entrepreneurship.

India assumed the BRICS chairship in 2026, with digital cooperation emerging as a key area of engagement under its tenure.
