No dues certificate not required from farmers for small loans upto Rs 50,000

New Delhi, Aug 24 (KNN)  Small loans to the tune of Rs 50,000 to small and marginal farmers amongst others will henceforth not require a no dues certificate.  Instead, banks have been advised by the RBI to obtain self-declaration from borrowers.
 
“The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) vide its circular dated 30th April, 2007 has advised banks to dispense with the requirement of `no dues’ certificate for small loans upto Rs 50,000/- to small and marginal farmers, share-croppers and the like and, instead, obtain self-declaration from the borrowers,” said Minister of State for Finance Namo Narain Meena in the Lok Sabha yesterday. 
 
The central bank, according to the minister has received no complaints from any banks in the recent past for non-compliance of these instructions.  (KNN/ES)
