Piyush Goyal Holds High-Level Talks To Boost India-Spain Trade, Investment

New Delhi, Jul 14 (KNN) Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal began the Spain leg of his official visit with a series of high-level meetings aimed at strengthening India-Spain economic ties and expanding cooperation in trade, investment, innovation and industry.

India, Spain Review Economic Partnership

Goyal held bilateral talks with Carlos Cuerpo Caballero, First Vice-President of Spain and Minister of Economy, Trade and Business, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral trade, investment and business collaboration.

The discussions focused on improving market access, strengthening resilient supply chains and expanding cooperation in renewable energy, green hydrogen, advanced manufacturing, digital technologies, infrastructure and innovation.

The two sides also exchanged views on the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and agreed to utilise the Fast Track Mechanism to facilitate investments and strengthen business confidence.

They also looked forward to convening the next meeting of the India-Spain Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation later this year.

Industrial Cooperation In Focus

The minister also met Jordi Hereu Boher, Spain's Minister of Industry and Tourism, to discuss industrial cooperation, sustainable manufacturing, clean energy, mobility, tourism, automotive, railways and smart infrastructure.

Both ministers welcomed the C-295 aircraft programme as a flagship example of industrial collaboration under India's Make in India initiative and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening industry-to-industry partnerships.

Business Forum Highlights Investment Opportunities

A key engagement during the visit was the India-Spain Business Forum, jointly organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the Chamber of Commerce of Spain, the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE) and ICEX Spain Trade and Investment.

Goyal highlighted India's position as the world's fastest-growing major economy and invited Spanish companies to expand investments in sectors including manufacturing, infrastructure, renewable energy, digital technologies, innovation and the digital economy.

ICEX Meeting Focuses On Bilateral Investments

The minister also met senior officials of ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones to discuss measures for boosting bilateral investment, technology partnerships and business linkages.

The visit reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to deepen their strategic economic partnership through enhanced trade, investment, industrial cooperation, innovation and people-to-people exchanges.
