Commerce Ministry Holds Key Talks with Industry on India-U.S. Trade Agreement

New Delhi, May 5 (KNN) The Commerce Ministry on Thursday conducted a comprehensive consultation with key domestic industry stakeholders to discuss the proposed India-U.S. bilateral trade agreement (BTA).

The aim of the meeting was to gather inputs to strengthen trade ties between the two nations in a mutually beneficial manner, a senior official confirmed.

The session was chaired by Rajesh Agrawal, Special Secretary in the Commerce Ministry and India’s chief negotiator for the agreement.

He led discussions on recent developments in India-U.S. trade relations and highlighted opportunities for collaboration under the proposed pact.

Industry representatives were briefed by the Department of Commerce, which also sought their views on how to further deepen bilateral economic engagement.

The dialogue focused on enhancing market access, resolving trade barriers, and aligning standards and regulations to improve competitiveness.

“The special secretary assured participants that their feedback will be taken into account during the ongoing negotiations,” the official said, emphasizing the government’s commitment to inclusive policy-making.

Senior members from top industry associations including the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), India Cellular and Electronics Association, and Assocham were present during the discussions.

The consultations come amid efforts by both nations to elevate their economic partnership. Bilateral trade between India and the U.S. has seen consistent growth, with both sides keen to address longstanding trade issues and expand cooperation in sectors such as technology, manufacturing, and services.

The inputs from this consultation are expected to shape India’s approach in the forthcoming rounds of trade talks with the U.S.
