Hundreds Of Downstream Products Of Steel & Aluminum Affected By Trump’s Tariffs

New Delhi, Mar 12 (KNN) President Donald Trump's enhanced tariffs on steel and aluminum imports took effect Wednesday following the expiration of previous exemptions, duty-free quotas and product exclusions.

The policy shift represents a significant escalation in the administration's efforts to reshape global trade dynamics in favor of American interests.

The reinstated measures impose a 25 per cent tariff on all steel and aluminum imports and extend duties to hundreds of downstream products manufactured from these metals, including nuts, bolts, bulldozer blades and soda cans.

This comprehensive approach aims to strengthen protections for domestic steel and aluminum producers.

Diplomatic tensions intensified in the days leading up to the tariff implementation when President Trump threatened to double duties on Canadian steel and aluminum exports to 50 per cent.

The president ultimately rescinded this threat after Ontario Premier Doug Ford agreed to temporarily suspend his province's 25 per cent surcharge on electricity exports to Minnesota, Michigan and New York, with the suspension contingent on the lifting of earlier U.S. tariffs.
