Piyush Goyal To Attend G7 Trade Ministers' Meeting In Italy, Focus On Enhancing Economic Cooperation

New Delhi, Jul 15 (KNN) Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is set to participate in bilateral discussions with counterparts from G7 nations in Reggio Calabria, Italy, next week.

The talks, scheduled for July 16-17, will focus on enhancing trade and investment relations, according to an official statement released on Saturday.

The coastal city of Reggio Calabria in southern Italy will host these discussions as part of the broader G7 Trade Ministers' Meeting.

The G7 comprises Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. India has been invited to the event as an observer.

These meetings aim to explore new opportunities for trade and investment, address bilateral trade issues, and strengthen economic cooperation.

The Indian commerce ministry stated that the country intends to showcase its significant trade and investment prospects during the outreach session.

Minister Goyal is expected to outline India's perspective on global trade and supply chain resilience, as well as highlight recent reforms and initiatives to improve the business environment and attract foreign investments.

The visit holds particular significance as India is currently engaged in free trade agreement negotiations with the UK and the European Union.

Additionally, trade talks between India and Canada, which were suspended last year due to political tensions, have recently seen renewed activity with over six rounds of discussions.

Prior to his arrival in Italy, Minister Goyal will visit Switzerland on July 14 and 15 for meetings with his Swiss counterparts.

This diplomatic engagement comes at a crucial time for India's international trade relations and could potentially influence ongoing and future trade negotiations with several G7 member states.
