Government Plans Rs 277 Crore Push To Onboard 5 Lakh MSMEs On ONDC By 2027

Bhubaneswar, Jul 30 (KNN) The government’s proposed Rs 277 crore investment to onboard 5 lakh micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) onto the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) by 2027 is expected to accelerate digitalisation and expand market access for small businesses.

Women to Account for 50 percent of Beneficiaries

Manoj Mohan Sinha, Zonal Manager, MSME, Government of India, said the initiative aims to bring 5 lakh MSMEs onto the ONDC platform, with women expected to account for 50 percent  of the beneficiaries.

Speaking on the sidelines of an MSME awareness programme in Odisha, Sinha said the sector is expected to become increasingly digitalised and play a larger role in India's economic growth, reported ANI.

ONDC to Expand Market Access for Odisha MSMEs

The initiative could also provide wider market access to MSMEs in Odisha, with local enterprises gaining opportunities to sell products beyond the state through digital commerce.

Rasmi Rajalaxmi Bhanja Deo, HH, Mayurbhanj, said around 15,000-16,000 MSMEs are already registered in the district and the initiative could help improve livelihoods and expand the market for locally produced goods.

She said greater digital market access could enable MSMEs to reach consumers across India and potentially international markets, improving the commercial value of local products.

NSIC to Implement MSME Digitalisation Initiative

The government organised the MSME awareness programme in Odisha in collaboration with the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC), which is serving as the implementing agency.
