FOPSIA opposes bank strikes, urges govt to extend last due dates & refund last 4 days interest

Ludhiana, Mar 29 (KNN) The Federation of Punjab Small Industries Associations (FOPSIA) has opposed the bank strikes and have appealed the government to extend the last due dates and reimburse the interest of four days lost due to Bharat Bandh.

A nationwide strike on 28-29 March was called by various trade union and bank unions against the central government policies.

The strikes were planned on a very important time as it is the annual closing period when trade and industry close their annual accounts.

Speaking exclusively with KNN India, FOPSIA President Badish Jindal said “There were already two holidays of Saturday and Sunday before the two day strike which affected the banking services for four days. The average daily bank clearing of Ludhiana is more than Rs 1200 crore and Punjab is Rs 5000 crore. This has halted the whole financial process. Due to closing dates many important payments of tenders and exports were due so the industries will have to face huge losses,” he added.

Badish called it a government failure as the authorities were unsuccessful in managing the situation due to which the industry has to suffer.

“We have requested the government to extend the last due dates and to refund the interest of four days” said FOPSIA chief. (KNN/KJ)
