Haryana Offers MSMEs Up To Rs 20 Lakh Subsidy For Cleaner DG Sets, Boilers
Chandigarh, Aug 22 (KNN) The Haryana Government has introduced subsidy schemes to help Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) adopt cleaner diesel generator (DG) sets and industrial boilers as part of efforts to reduce air pollution.
Under the DG set scheme, MSMEs will be eligible for reimbursement of 50 percent of the cost of new DG sets meeting Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) emission standards, subject to a maximum of Rs 20 lakh.
The scheme, notified by the Industry and Commerce Department on August 19, targets the installation of 1,400 new DG sets in Gurugram and Faridabad, reported The Tribune.
MSMEs can also claim 50 percent reimbursement, up to Rs 5 lakh, for installing Retrofit Emission Control Devices on existing DG sets.
The incentives have been introduced under the Haryana Clean Air Project for Sustainable Development (HCAPSD) 2025-31, which seeks to curb industrial and urban air pollution by promoting cleaner fuels and technologies.
DG Set Subsidy Targets Cleaner Industrial Operations
According to the HCAPSD report, the Environment Ministry estimates that stationary diesel generators contribute around 18 percent of urban pollution. Haryana said ageing DG sets can emit up to 11 times the permissible limits and account for 7-18 percent of ambient air pollution.
The two-year first phase will cover industrial units in Gurugram, Faridabad, Jhajjar and Sonepat, supporting CPCB-compliant DG sets, cleaner-fuel retrofits and dual-fuel conversions.
Scheme To Expand Across NCR
The second phase will extend the scheme to other National Capital Region (NCR) districts, while the third phase will cover non-NCR areas. Each phase will run for two years.
All supported DG sets and retrofit systems will be required to meet CPCB norms and directions issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management.
MSMEs To Get Subsidy For Cleaner Boilers
Separately, the state has notified an assistance scheme for cleaner industrial boilers.
Under the scheme, MSMEs will receive 50 percent of the cost, up to Rs 20 lakh, for purchasing the first 1,000 boilers using piped natural gas (PNG), compressed natural gas (CNG) or other gaseous fuels.
For converting existing boilers to PNG or CNG, financial assistance of up to 50 percent of the conversion cost, capped at Rs 10 lakh per unit, will be provided.
Cleaner Fuels Target Industrial Emissions
The government said industrial boilers using conventional fuels such as coal, pet coke and heavy fuel oil are major sources of sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter.
It noted that small and micro enterprises in sectors including chemicals, pulp and paper, and sugar often rely on inefficient boilers, leading to higher fossil-fuel consumption and emissions.
