New Delhi, Nov 22 (KNN) In a bid to improve marketing of Khadi products, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is planning to set up a marketing organisation under public-private-partnership mode for effective marketing of KVI products.

The marketing organization would be set up as a joint venture between KVIC and a private partner and would be incorporated as a private limited company as defined under Companies Act of India, 1956.

A similar attempt was made even a few years ago, but it proved to be a non-starter.

KVIC, which has been engaged in the development of Khadi and Village Industries, how seeks consultants to provide proper marketing structure to help small entrepreneurs sell their products.

In order to fully realize the significant growth potential of KVI sector in terms of employment generation, enhance earnings of artisans and also to ensure positioning of Khadi in consonance with current market needs, KVIC with support of Government of India and Asian Development Bank has initiated the Khadi Reform and Development Programme in the direction of bringing in holistic reform measures for the Khadi sub sector.

The goal of this programme is to make Khadi industry more productive, competitive and also to strengthen its potential for creation of sustainable employment by extending an evenly balanced and need based support in all areas of Khadi activities like production, distribution, promotion, capacity building and sales.

“One of the key objectives of KRDP is to set up a Marketing Organization for effective marketing of KVI products,” Directorate of Marketing,” KVIC said.

The private partner would be the majority stake holder with a shareholding of 51 per cent whereas the KVIC would have a shareholding of the rest 49 per cent.

Currently, the KVIC which functions under the administration of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises operates 10 departmental sales outlets and organises exhibitions in different parts of the country at district, state, regional and national levels in association with state agencies.

KVIC also provides assistance to its departmental outlets, outlets of Khadi and Village Industries Boards (KVIBs) of states and Union territories, and institutions under the Scheme of Strengthening Infrastructure of Existing Weak Khadi Institutions.

Besides, KVIC imparts training on various KVI trades and entrepreneurship through a network of 17 departmental and 24 non-departmental training centres. (KNN/SD)
