New Delhi, May 4 (KNN) MSMEs in the Jagdishpur region of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh continue to remain sick as the government and the concerned officials fail in providing appropriate rehabilitation to the units.

Talking to KNN, Shahnawaz Ahamad, Chapter Chairman of the Indian Industries Association explained the situation.

He said that there are almost 40 MSME units that aren’t functioning of which 14 units are marked recoverable by the concerned Department in Faizabad. Despite the proposal to rehabilitate these units, the banks and the district power officials continue to be in a denial mode.

According to the official notification for the Rehabilitation of the sick industries, once the units are identified and the proposal is forwarded, the power supply to the units is supposed to be restored immediately, waiving the interest charges and allowing for the pending bill to be paid in instalments.

But in the case of Amethi, Ahamad says that despite repeated requests to the District Magistrate, the restoration of the power couldn’t be made possible.

“We have approached the officials time and again, even the DM has directed the power authority to restore the power as per the notification, but we couldn’t get the power line, Instead the officials at the power department asks for 4 – 5 lakh rupees. How can a sick MSME pay such big amount of money” asked Shahnawaz.

He further informed that banks are not cooperating either. They are not willing to extend the financial assistance. Instead they are more interested in declaring the units as Non-performing Assets despite the fact that the units can be revived.

The Chapter chairman also grieved that even with the change of Government in the State; the situation did not improve at all for the industry.

“Ever since the formation of the new government, we have had three meetings with the officials including the chief engineer, but they turn us away saying it is not their job to facilitate rehabilitation, we end up knocking doors” he added.

Ahamad informed that the Industry body had predicted such a situation for the region before three years, and to their fear, the situation is likely to further worsened up as the State Government and district officials continue to remain blind-folded to the situation concerning the industry.
