New Delhi, Nov 28 (KNN)  In a bid to ensure continuous and affordable power supply, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has initiated a scheme for setting up of 25 solar parks, each with the capacity of 500 MW and above, to be developed in the next 5 years in various states.

This was stated by Minister of State for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy, Piyush Goyal, in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha yesterday.

The Ministry, he said, had sent the scheme for development of solar park to various states along with MOU to all the state governments against which 12 states have given consent for setting up of solar parks.

States which have sent written request for setting up solar power park/ultra mega solar power projects are Gujarat (750 MW), Madhya Pradesh (750 MW + 750 MW), Telangana (1000 MW), Andhra Pradesh (2500 MW), Karnataka (1000 MW), Uttar Pradesh (600 MW), Meghalaya (60 MW), Jammu and Kashmir (7500 MW), Punjab (1000 MW + 1000 MW), Rajasthan (700 MW + 1000 MW + 1000 MW + 1000 MW), Tamil Nadu (500 MW), and Odisha (1000 MW).

This adds up to a total capacity of 22100 MW.  While a majority of the states have identified land for the solar plants in their respective states, a few are yet to do so.

The Minister further stated that the estimated cost for development of solar parks would be around Rs 0.95 Cr/MW.

Solar power plants of various capacities would be set up by solar power developers in the park, and the developers would be selected through bidding process under central/state schemes.

As per tariff determined for the year 2014-15 by Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), the capital cost of Grid connected solar PV project is Rs 6.91 Cr/MW.  (KNN/ES)
