Delhi govt seeks help from Tokyo in infrastructure and solid waste management

New Delhi, May 15 (KNN) The Delhi government on Thursday sought cooperation from Japanese capital Tokyo in fields of infrastructure, cleaning of rivers and solid waste management.

“We look forward to Tokyo to be guided on specific areas like infrastructure, solid waste management, cleaning of rivers etc. We would also like to seek investment in Delhi from Japan,” said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a statement.

A delegation of Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly led by Members, Osamu Yoshiwara met the chief minister and Deputy CM Manish Sisodia at the Delhi Secretariat. They discussed several issues, including school teacher exchange programme.

On issues of cooperation, the delegation also replied in the positive that they hope to further strengthen the Tokyo and Delhi relationship apart from the strong bond which India and Japan share.

“We have listed several areas where we can work together. Let’s work together to resolve the problems and areas of concern like environmental issues, water, sewerage problem etc. We can have exchange programme between the two cities to take it further,” said Osamu.

Welcoming the delegation to Delhi, Sisodia also discussed on various areas of cooperation.

“We really look forward to having mutually beneficial relationship with you. We can have it in so many areas like education, waste management, environment, engineering etc.,” he said.

The deputy CM also came up with an idea to have an exchange programme of the school teachers between the two cities. (KNN/ST)
