This was informed by Chhattisgarh Rural Industries Minister Punnulal Mohle during the annual conference of State Textiles Ministers in New Delhi recently, according to a recent media report.
Addressing the conference, Mohle said that Chhattisgarh is the second largest raw tussar silk producing State in the country. The state has been producing 500 metric tonne of raw tussar silk against the national production demand for 200 metric tonne.
Citing the problems faced by the weavers, the minister said shortage of handloom thread adversely affects the textile industry in the state.
Mohle urged the centre not to stop supply of handloom thread to Chhattisgarh due to delay in payment. He demanded 10 per cent grant on polyester cotton yarn for weavers of the state on the lines of 10 per cent grant given by the centre on hank yarn.
In addition, in order to ensure adequate supply of yarn to weavers he urged the centre to establish two yarn warehouses and a trade facilitation centre for encouraging Kosa producers in the state.
Recently, Flipkart signed a MoU with National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to create a platform for students under its 'Flipkart Kaarigar ke Dwaar Abhiyaan’.
The e-tailer has also signed MoUs with the Federation of Indian Small Medium Enterprise (FISME), the Director General – Employment and Training, Ministry of Labour and Employment (DGET) and also DC, Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles. (KNN Bureau)
