New Delhi, May 25 (KNN) The government has set-up an inter-ministerial committee to look into the demands raised by the trade unions, said Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya.

The decision to form the committee came on Sunday, just two days ahead of the national convention of trade unions scheduled to be held on Tuesday, also the day the BJP-led NDA government completes its first year in office.

"PMO has constituted an inter-ministerial group comprising minister of finance, minister of state for petroleum, minister of state for power and myself to address all issues raised by trade unions," Dattatreya said in a letter to trade unions.

"With your kind cooperation we will fulfil all your demands in the 10-point charter," he added.

The trade unions have been raising concerns over the several changes made to the existing labour laws besides attempts to introduce new laws, saying that the government is rushing through bills like Industrial Relations Code, Small Factories and Employees' Provident Fund in the name of ease of doing business and boosting 'Make in India' programme.

The 10-point agenda of the trade unions includes demands such as government steps to deal with issues like price rise, unemployment, universal social security cover for workers and disinvestment of public sector undertakings.

The trade unions like  - Indian National Trade Union Congress, All India Trade Union Congress, Hind Mazdoor Sabha, Centre of Indian Trade Unions, All India United Trade Union Centre, All India Central Council of Trade Unions, Trade Union Coordination Committee, United Trade Union Congress, Self-Employed Women's Association of India and Labour Progressive Federation have been raising voice against the government's initiatives. (KNN Bureau)
