Incubation Centre likely to come up at NIFT Bhubaneswar

According to a Business Standard report on Thursday, a sum of Rs 12 crore has been sanctioned for the incubation centre in which three units can operate simultaneously, wherein MSME entrepreneurs will be provided plug and play facilities.
In the regard, the Ministry is in the process of acquiring 3 acres of land, adjoining the NIFT campus, as revealed by secretary, Union ministry of textiles Sanjay Kumar Panda on sidelines of inaugural ceremony of 'Design Sutra - National Workshop on Promotion of Handloom and Fashion' organised by NIFT, Bhubaneswar.
The Ministry has also sanctioned Rs 10 crore for an artisans’ village at Raghurajpur towards which it will provide assistance for infrastructure, tourism, working capital, etc.
The village at Raghurajpur is home to artisans who create handicrafts such as Patta Chittras, palm leaf engravings, stone carvings, paper made toys and masks, wood carvings, wooden toys, cow-dung toys and tusser paintings, the media report said.
Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for Textiles, Santosh Gangwar who was also present at the NIFT event has asked the Odisha government for a proposal to set up an integrated textile park in the state. Considering that the state has a rich tradition of handlooms, he felt the need for such a park there.
Currently, there are 63 textile parks in the country. The Centre provides 40 per cent of the project cost subject to a ceiling of Rs 40 crore for a park.
Design Sutra, a competition among students of the various centres of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is to encourage them to use traditional textiles and handicrafts in creating products for contemporary clientele.
Showcasing the winning entries and sharing the knowhow with artisans and other stakeholders will provide tremendous opportunities for growth to the sector. Design Sutra 2015 was hosted by NIFT Bhubaneswar, Odisha. (KNN/ES)
