New Delhi, Feb 14 (KNN) Union Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Ravi Shankar Prasad said Indian telecom companies could produce world class products because of a large domestic demand for these equipment in the country.

Inaugurating the sixth edition of Reverse Buyer Seller Meet at India Habitat Centre on Friday, the minister said that the country had proven its capabilities in ICT Sector as a preferred destination for services and outsourced R&D.

The event was organised by Telecom Equipment and Services Export Promotion Council (TEPC) an undertaking of the Ministry of Commerce to promote export of telecom equipment and services.

Prasad said government initiatives like the Digital India, Make in India and Skill India programs provide an ideal platform for domestic companies to build a foundation for domestic success which can be used for exports.

The fact that buyers from Peru to Philippines and from Mexico to Malaysia participated in this event gives confidence that Indian products are gaining acceptance in the global markets, he said.

The minister said Indian market requires best technology, highest quality and affordable costs to bring success in market.

He also assured that the government is fully committed to promoting manufacturing and exports of telecom as a focus area.

Commerce Secretary, Rajiv Kher said that telecom equipment is increasingly being differentiated by design and software in which India has very strong and proven capabilities.
The emerging markets of Africa, Latin America, SE Asia and CIS countries were the natural destination for Indian exports, since they would have the highest growth potential in the coming years, he said.

Telecom Secretary, Rakesh Garg said there is need to build long-term partnerships between overseas buyers and Indian companies, keeping in view the continuous technological changes happening in telecom sector.

TEPC Vice Chairman, Sanjay Nayak emphasised that the Buyer Seller Meet is a very high impact event which was directly facilitating the domestic industry to generate business in overseas markets by bringing together a large number of buyers and manufacturers under one umbrella.

The main objective of the event is to provide opportunities to Indian telecom exporters to meet qualified overseas buyers. This event provides one to one meeting opportunities between buyers from different countries and Indian exporters who can enlighten them about their products and technology solutions.

This year’s edition also conducted exhibitions on the side line of the event where more than 25 telecom exporters showcase their products and capabilities.

As many as 49 buyers from 19 countries including South-East Asia, Latin America and Africa represented telecom service providers and system integrators at the mega event. (KNN/ST)
