J&K cement manufacturers meet Central Pollution Control Board chief over closure notices

New Delhi, Sep 23 (KNN) A delegation of industrialist from Jammu representing the cement manufacturing units met S.P. Singh Parihar, Chairman, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to discuss over the pending cased for revocation of closure notices issued by the board.

The delegation was led by Lalit Mahajan, Chairman, Federation of Industries, Jammu along with Ajit Bawa,Co Chairman FOIJ and President, Kathua Industrial Unit Association.

“The delegation met the CPCB chief to discuss issue related to the pending cases for the revocation of closure notices issued by the Central Pollution Control Board, New Delhi to the Cement Manufacturing Units located in J&K,” said Mahajan.

During the course of discussions, Mahajan informed the Chairman that information about the units that have installed the On Line Monitoring Equipments has been given to the CPCB but so far no action has been taken by the board.

“The numbers of Cement Manufacturing Units already installed the On Line Monitoring Equipments and accordingly the intimation in this regard has been communicated to the Central Pollution Control Board, New Delhi by the State Pollution Control Board but till date no action has been taken by the Department to revoke the Closure Notices,” Mahajan said.

The delegation apprehended that this might lead to closure of several units and lay off of thousands of workers.

Further, Mahajan pointed that due to unrest in our State, the internet connection has been suspended in the state making it difficult for the department to monitor the working of Pollution Control Devices from outside the State.

“Despite the clearance being given by the J&K State Pollution Control Board on the working of the online monitoring system in case of some units, the concerned officials did not revoke the closure notices,” Mahajan pointed.

The Central Pollution Control Board chief assured the delegation to take up the pending cases of the Cement Manufacturing Units, who have already installed the Online Monitoring System, and revoke the closure order served to them immediately. (KNN Bureau)
