JSW Energy Commences Major Battery Storage Project In Rajasthan

Jaipur, Jun 10 (KNN) JSW Energy, a prominent energy corporation, announced on Monday that it has initiated construction on a substantial 1 gigawatt hour (GWh) battery energy storage system project in Fatehgarh, Rajasthan.

The company recently secured this project through a competitive bidding process conducted by the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI), a government-owned entity responsible for facilitating the implementation of solar energy projects.

The project comprises two independent installations, each with a storage capacity of 500 MWh, designed to provide two hours of storage per cycle.

This ambitious endeavour will be developed under a Build Own Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model, wherein JSW Energy will construct, own, and operate the facilities for a period of 12 years, after which ownership will be transferred to the offtaker.

JSW Energy has set a target to commission and operationalise the project by June 2025, underscoring its commitment to meeting the designated timeline.

In a related development, JSW Energy has also formalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with JSW Steel Ltd, a prominent steel conglomerate.

Under the terms of this agreement, JSW Energy will supply an additional 85,000-90,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually to JSW Steel, along with 7,20,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) of green oxygen, progressively ramping up production to meet these targets by the year 2030.

Sharad Mahendra, Joint Managing Director and CEO, JSW Energy, emphasised the strategic significance of this battery energy storage system project, stating, "Our Battery Energy Storage System project represents a crucial advancement in enhancing grid stability and integrating renewable energy sources."
