New Delhi, Feb 20 (KNN) Government of India on Thursday launched a single window government-to-business (G2B) portal for 11 central government services. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley launched the portal.

"We are firmly committed to wide ranging initiatives aimed at fostering the business environment in the country in a holistic manner," he said while stressing on technology enabled initiatives to bring transparency, improve efficiency and promote convenience.

Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced on the occasion that now irrespective of the level of computerisation at the Department's end, whether online or not, eBiz platform will provide online submission and processing of forms including online payment.

Important Ministries / Departments covered under the portal www.ebiz.gov.in , include those from Corporate Affairs Ministry (MCA), Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) and Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).

While this is a very welcome step, Industries from the States will still be facing Himalayan hurdles in “Doing Business”. Today, all infrastructural inputs including land, power, water, and roads are provided to the industry by the States. The regulatory environment under the local taxes, labour laws, pollution controls etc. are also under the control of the state governments. So till the states initiate such mechanism for online clearances under the above laws, it will be a half-baked cake. The business will look forward to the central Government and its think tank, the NITI Aayog to initiate an early consultation on these issues. (KNN/DB)
