Rashtrapati Bhavan invites applications for 'Innovation Scholars In-Residence Programme'

New Delhi, Nov 3 (KNN)  To encourage the creative and innovative potential of people and open up Rashtrapati Bhavan for greater participation and involvement of the common man in its activities, the Innovation Scholars In-Residence Programme was launched.

Rashtrapati Bhavan now invites applications for the second batch of the programme and all Indian nationals who have a track record of innovation and implementation of innovative ideas can apply, the last date for applications being November-30, according to an official release.

The programme will commence from March, 2015 and selected Innovation Scholars will stay in Rashtrapati Bhavan for a period of two weeks. Interested applicants can apply online through the website www.presidentofindia.nic.in.

The Innovation Scholars In-Residence Scheme was launched by the President of India on December 11, 2013 with a view to promoting the spirit of innovation and giving further impetus to grassroots innovation activities.

The main objective of the Scheme is to provide an environment to grassroots innovators in Rashtrapati Bhavan to work on a project in hand and take their innovative ideas forward. It also aims to provide them with linkages to technical institutions to strengthen their capacity to innovate and to provide mentoring and support so that the innovations can be used for the progress and welfare of society.

Objectives of the programme are - to provide an environment to grassroots innovators in the Rashtrapati Bhavan to work on a project in hand and take their innovative ideas forward; to provide linkages with technical institutions to the selected innovators to strengthen their capacity to innovate; and to provide mentoring and support so that the innovations can be used for the progress and welfare of the society.

The project is being implemented by a committee constituted for this purpose.  Among its duties are to scrutinize all applications received for the 'Innovation Scholars in-Residence' scheme; and design the framework for selection of innovation scholars for this 'In-Residence' scheme keeping in mind the overall objectives of the scheme. It will give preference to young innovators and at the same time give a wide geographic representation.  (KNN/ES)
