Traders bodies demand fast-tracking of CCI investigation against e-commerce majors

New Delhi, Sept 20 (KNN) The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) in a communication sent today to Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal  has urged for a fast track CCI investigation against Amazon & Flipkart.

‘The CCI may be directed to fast track mode of investigation against Amazon & Flipkart on the complaints filed by the CAIT and Delhi Vyapar Mahasangh (DVM)’ communication said.

‘The longer investigation may give sufficient time to both e-tailers to manage the records and temper the evidence which may lead to dictum justice delayed-justice denied’, CAIT added.

The CAIT further said that the matter was hanging fire for about two years already and delays of investigation will kill the purpose of the investigation.

CAIT has alleged that ‘there are loopholes in laws and Rules and the concerning Acts are weak which give enough leverage to these global e-tailers to twist the law and the rules to their own whims and wishes’.

‘Each day the business practices of these companies are killing the domestic business to a larger extent and therefore fast track investigation is the need of the hour’, it added.

The matter was raised by the CAIT in September, 2019 with the DPIIT which went to Karnataka High Court and later the Supreme Court after the CCI passed an order of investigation in 2020.
