UP Legal Services Authority to conduct Lok Adalats from March 12 to take up bank related matters

New Delhi, Feb 21 (KNN) The Uttar Pradesh Legal Services Authority will conduct Lok Adalats from March 12 in Noida. District judge Ashok Kumar held a meeting with the officials concerned to review the preparations.

He also directed the officials to prepare a plan of action to ensure that maximum cases are heard at the Lok Adalat next month.

The officials said bank related matters would be taken up on priority due to the high pendency of cases. Apart from them, civil, matrimonial and family disputes, land leases, and cases related to revenue, forest, land acquisition and accident compensation would be heard at the Lok Adalat.

The last Lok Adalat was held on December 11 last year. Along with officials from the state legal services authority, those from other departments involved in cases have also been asked to make preparations.

Officials have also been told to raise awareness about the Lok Aadalat so that more people can approach it for the hearing of their cases.

National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) along with other Legal Services Institutions conducts Lok Adalats. Lok Adalat is one of the alternative dispute redressal mechanisms, it is a forum where disputes/cases pending in the court of law or at pre-litigation stage are settled/ compromised amicably.

Lok Adalats have been given statutory status under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.

There is no court fee payable when a matter is filed in a Lok Adalat.

If a matter pending in the court of law is referred to the Lok Adalat and is settled subsequently, the court fee originally paid in the court on the complaints/petition is also refunded back to the parties. (KNN Bureau)
