WB IT&E dept selects MAKAUT as its knowledge partner for cyber security

New Delhi, Nov 12 (KNN) The Information Technology & Electronics (IT&E) Department of West Bengal has selected Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT) as its knowledge partner for cyber security.

The move was a part of West Bengal Government’s strategy of having centres of excellence for emerging technologies like blockchain, artificial intelligence and cyber security.

The university, which runs a number of courses on cyber security, will set up a centre of excellence in this regard, where a consortium of leading institutions will be providing lessons on tackling cyber threats.

In this regard, the IT&E Department has also invited institutions who want to help set up a helpline for cyber crime victims.

In the works is also a list of simple dos and don’ts for guidance of people and departments when cyber attacks happen, especially in critical infrastructures like power, traffic, transportation, metros, airports, etc.

The State Government has also come up with a Cyber Security Centre of Excellence for the purpose of collection, analysis and dissemination of information related to cyber security.

With this, the government believes that around 1 lakh cyber security jobs can be created annually.
