Delhi ‘Bandh’ caused business losses worth 1,800 crores, revenue loss 150 crores: CAIT

New Delhi, Mar 15 (KNN) With the different trade associations going for Bandh on March 13, protesting against the ongoing sealing drive in the national capital on the directive of a Supreme Court appointed committee, the businesses in the national capital have suffered losses of over 1800 crores.

Praveen Khandelwal, Secretary General of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) said that the bandh caused losses of over 1,800 crores and a revenue loss of over 150 crores for the government as businesses remained closed for a day.

He further said that the government is yet to address their concerns despite of huge chaos happening in the business ecosystem of the country.

Talking to KNN, Narendra Madan, Chairman of Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) said that the traders strike against the sealing drive by calling off a bandh came admits the fact that there is politics being played over the matter.

“Nobody wants to solve our problems, we are being used as a tool to play politics, had it been otherwise, the situation could have been different”, he said.

Over 7 lakh traders belonging to 2500 different trade associations participated in the protest that included markets of Chandni Chowk, Connaught Place, Lajpat Nagar, Amar Colony, Khan Market, Sadar Bazaar, Model Town and Kalkaji.

The traders have urged both the Arvind Kejriwal led Delhi government and the central government to keep politics aside and help address their concern by bringing in an ordinance in the house.

Civic bodies have undertaken the sealing drive initiated by a Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee on December 2017 last year. The committee is sealing business establishments that are using residential properties for commercial purposes. (With Inputs from a Media report) (KNN/DA)
