Delhi Govt To Add 150 Electric Buses, Commissions 5 Public EV Charging Stations
New Delhi, Oct 14 (KNN) The Delhi Government has inducted 150 zero-emission electric buses into its public transport fleet and commissioned five public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations as part of efforts to expand clean mobility infrastructure in the city.
The new buses will take Delhi’s electric bus fleet to 5,238, within an overall fleet of around 6,988 buses, including 1,750 CNG buses, according to a government press release.
The government aims to expand the city's total bus fleet to nearly 14,000 by FY29 under its fleet augmentation programme, ANI reported.
The newly inducted low-floor, air-conditioned buses are equipped with CCTV cameras, panic buttons, real-time tracking systems and accessibility features for persons with disabilities.
Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said the expansion reflects the government's commitment to providing reliable, comfortable and environmentally sustainable public transport.
Five Public EV Charging Stations
The Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (DTIDC) has established a high-capacity public EV charging station at Swami Vivekanand ISBT in Anand Vihar.
The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has also set up public charging stations at four depots in Nand Nagri, Rohini Sector-37, Nangloi and Keshopur.
Anand Vihar ISBT is a major interstate transport hub, handling around 2,300 buses daily and catering to approximately 1.25 lakh commuters. These buses operate under the DTC, Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation, Uttarakhand Transport Corporation and the All India Tourist Permit category.
More high-capacity charging stations are under construction at other DTC locations to support the growing fleet of electric buses and other EVs.
Singh noted that the expansion of both electric buses and charging infrastructure would help build a more efficient and future-ready public transport system while advancing the city's transition towards cleaner mobility.
