Meghalaya Govt Announces Plans To Broaden ODOP Product List

Shillong, Jan 23 (KNN) Meghalaya's Agriculture Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh, disclosed the state government's intentions to expand the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative by incorporating additional products, on Tuesday.

Speaking at the ODOP Media event held in Shillong, the minister mentioned that the state is contemplating submitting a proposal to the DPIIT-ODOP Team.

The proposal aims to include secondary products like Ryndia (Eri Silk) for Ri Bhoi district, Black Pottery (Khiew Ranei) for West Jaintia Hills district, and Bamboo/Cane Handicrafts for East Khasi Hills district.

Highlighting the state's commitment to a successful ODOP implementation, Lyngdoh emphasised the objective of fostering a more inclusive, resilient, and prosperous state.

The Agriculture Minister underscored the state's dedication to promoting ODOP products through various initiatives. These include raising awareness about the ODOP program, ensuring quality standards for identified products, enhancing production and processing infrastructure, GI tagging, creating unique brands, and facilitating market linkages domestically and internationally.

Dr. Preet Deep Singh, Vice President of Invest India ODOP team, endorsed the notion of introducing a secondary product for each district within the ODOP framework. He expressed readiness to advance the suggestion if district administrations believe in the need to accelerate more than one product.
