Things getting back to normal for MSMEs as rainwater level drops in Mumbai: BIA

New Delhi, Sept 1 (KNN) In the aftermath of floods in Mumbai due to heavy rainfall earlier this week, the industry comprising of thousands of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are getting back to normal as the rain levels drop in the region, Bombay Industries Association (BIA) informed.

Talking to KNN, Jeenanath D. Shetty, President of the Bombay Industries Association (BIA) informed that heavy flooding in the region two days back did raise alarm signals not only for the ordinary public but also for the industry in the region.

The industry in general feared the implications of the heavy flooding, especially the MSMSs. Explaining the situation, Shetty added that the MSMEs work on a tight schedule and do not have much scope for gaps in the production cycle. With continuous rains there were MSMEs that had to halt their operations due to various reasons including inability of the workers to reach the units, electricity etc.

The raw material to the units as well as the movement of manufactured goods from the units entirely depends on road transportation. Due to the waterlogging after the rain, the movement along the routes experienced problems, adding a burden unto the MSMEs.

Shetty informed that with the rain not being that heavy anymore, the situation is close to normal with not much significant loss registered as of now. However if the rain goes again to the abnormal situations, the industry might have to suffer due to disruption in production as well as distribution cycle. (KNN/ DA)
