Trader in Andhra Pradesh fined Rs 20,000 for missing Rs 15 invoice under GST

New Delhi, Sept 28 (KNN) In a relative shock under the newly rolled out Goods and Services Tax (GST), a trader in the state of Andhra Pradesh has been charged with a fine of 20,000 for kipping 15 rupee while filing the return, a news portal has reported.

According to the reports, a tax officer has issued a show cause notice to a trader imposing a fine of Rs 20,000 ras he was found omitting an amount of 15 rupee in a bill while filing the return.

The report quoted the notice saying that the office finds it clearly established that the tax payer wilfully violated the provisions of GST law, and it being a punishable offence, the trader is asked to pay the fine.

Earlier in July, the government had constituted a team of over 200 officials in the country that were to compile a list of traders and businsses who are found violating the laws of GST.

Fearing the probability of such  irrational action, different traders body including the traders body Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) earlier appealed to the finance minister to treat the first nine months of the goods and services tax (GST), from its rollout date of 1 July, as ‘trial period’ and that no punitive action should be taken against businesses for ‘procedural mistakes’ till they get used to the new taxation.
