UP Govt Allots 1,142 Hectares To Defence Manufacturers Under Industrial Corridor

Lucknow, Jul 7 (KNN) The Uttar Pradesh government has allotted 1,142 hectares to defence manufacturing companies under the UP Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC), against the backdrop of India's defence exports touching Rs 38,424 crore in 2025-26.

The UPDIC, launched in 2018, spans six nodes — Kanpur, Lucknow, Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Aligarh and Agra. Of the 2,100 hectares acquired for the corridor by nodal agency UP Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), 1,142 hectares have been allotted to investors so far.

Speaking to Business Standard, a senior UP official said, "UP's defence manufacturing sector will not only bolster India's defence and military capabilities, but also give a push to the 'Make in UP' theme."

He added that defence manufacturing would catalyse the state's ambitious goal of becoming a USD 1 trillion economy by 2030.

Investment Pipeline

The corridor has netted investment proposals worth nearly Rs 40,000 crore, with Kanpur topping the list at Rs 13,000 crore, followed by Jhansi (Rs 12,190 crore), Lucknow (Rs 4,850 crore), Aligarh (Rs 4,581 crore), Chitrakoot (Rs 4,392 crore) and Agra (Rs 607 crore).

About 33 per cent, or over Rs 13,000 crore, of the corridor's current investment pipeline has already been launched.

According to UPDIC Chief General Manager Colonel (Retd) Sanjay Singh, nearly 65 companies have secured land to establish plants in the corridor, with the potential to create 15,300 jobs.
