MIA slams ESIC; says despite several complains, authorities turn deaf ear

New Delhi, Nov 26 (KNN) Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Chandigarh has once again seems to be neglecting duties of providing medical facilities to the beneficiaries, says Mohali Industries Association (MIA).

While speaking on the same, MIA Labour Committee Chairman Jasbir Singh slammed the ESIC Chandigarh and said lethargic and indifferent attitude of Insurance Commissioner cum Regional Director ESIC has put hospital and dispensaries into vulnerable condition.

''ESI act was formed for providing medical benefits to insured workers and their families, who are contributing to the ESI fund every month from their hard earned wages but due to lethargic and indifferent attitude of Insurance Commissioner cum Regional Director ESIC Chandigarh, the condition of the ESIC hospital and dispensaries has become bad to worse,'' Singh told in a mail to KNN India on Tuesday.

Anguished, over the matter, Singh further questioned who is responsible for providing medical facilities to insured workers in Mohali and reminded that the salary of ESIC staff is being paid from the ESI fund which is collected from worker's remuneration every month.

MIA Chairman, alleged that despite Regional Director was contacted numerous times over the issue but instead of taking appropriate actions in this regard, he chose to remain silent.

''From February, 2017 to date, MIA met him number of times and apprised him of the poor condition of the ESIC hospital and dispensaries of Mohali, but he turned deaf ear to the problems of the insured workers,'' Singh avowed.

Singh further said that during Sunil Taneja's tenure of three years, District Consumer Forum has penalised ESIC of Rs 5 lakh approximately in number of cases for deficiencies in service like delaying the medical claims of the insured workers.

''The ESIC Hospital Mohali hospital often refer the patients to other Government hospitals even without providing first aid. Despite being insured, workers are compelled to incur their medical expenditure from their own pockets and wait years for their reimbursement.'' he asserted.

He further alleged that central government has not taken any steps to improve the situation.

Notably, this is not the first time, where ESIC has been held responsible, for providing poor medical facility to beneficiaries. In this year September, Singh had alleged that the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) is taking money in the name of scheme and has not been providing services to worker which they are entitled for.

“They are not giving any services to the workers and in the name of ESIC scheme they are just collecting money. Neither they provide good infrastructure to the scheme holders nor provide any good services to the benefiters,” he had said.

He had also alleged that the ESIC department’s officer are involved in corruption following which funds are failing to reach workers.
