Delhi Sealing; Supreme court raps authorities for failing in the drive

New Delhi, Apr 3 (KNN) The Supreme Court in the hearing on sealing drive in Delhi came down heavily on the centre and the civic authorities over the breakdown on law and order amidst agitations and strikes against the sealing drive.

A bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta asked searching questions to the Centre over the Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Act, 2006 and subsequent legislations which protect unauthorised construction from being sealed.

Talking to KNN, Narendra Madan, Chairman of CAIT said that the woes of the traders in Delhi due to the sealing drive are because of the play of politics between different parties and business in the national capital is made to suffer.

He further said that traders are looking at the Supreme Court with a lot of hope and expects the court to address their concerns to stop the drive.

On agitation, he informed that traders have protested and raised their voice in a democratic manner and nothing is done against the rule of law.

“Once the final word is out and if our problem isn’t solved, we are planning to give a call for indefinite hunger strike across the national capital”, he added.

Earlier the Court in its harsh words said that the government and its bodies are not performing their jobs and the people of Delhi are suffering because of this.

Civic bodies have undertaken the sealing drive initiated by a Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee on December 2017 last year. The committee is sealing business establishments that are using residential properties for commercial purposes. (KNN/DA)
