New Delhi, Mar 20 (KNN) In a bid to boost value added exports, Commerce Ministry in its new draft policy for agri exports proposed to put an end to the different export restrictions including Minimum Export Price (MEP) and export duty on commodities not falling under ‘essentials’.

The draft also proposes a consultation framework among stakeholders and ministries to help mark commodities which are essentials, from a ‘food security’ angle, other than these the government plans to do away with all kinds of export restrictions.

The draft policy comes in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of doubling the farmer’s income, the government release informed.

Besides trade restriction, the new policy also proposes to formulate a common portal to monitor the export rejections. This portal is also to take care of the analysis of the reason behind rejection and take corrective actions accordingly.

The proposed policy also focusses on development of export-centric clusters, promoting value added exports through incentives, special focus on value added exports of organic products and developing uniform packaging for organic products.

The government is also looking forward to include marketing and promotion of ‘produce in India’ through Geographical Indication (GI) registration and putting in place post-harvest infrastructure support for smooth logistical movement of agri produce in the new policy.
