Govt think-tank to hold its first discussion meeting on e-commerce and cross border digital trade

New Delhi, Apr 23 (KNN) With a view to discuss issues related to e-commerce sector and cross-border digital trade, the think-tanks of India will hold its first meeting on April 24.

The think-tanks set up by government will deliberate on various issues including cross-border data flow, non-discriminatory treatment of digital products, data localization, protection and disclosure of source code, desirability of permanent moratorium on payment of customs duty on electronically transmitted goods, promoting paperless trading and online consumer protection.

The 70-member body has been formed with a purpose to hold discussion on important issues that are significant for the growth and development of economy as a whole.

This meeting is to be headed by Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu along with officials from various departments and ministries.

The meeting is being seen as an important one considering the recent developments at global platforms such as WTO regarding e-commerce.

Besides the apex trade bodies CII, FICCI, FISME and NASSCOM, representatives of  major telecom players, e-commerce companies, e-payment platforms, non-profits like IT for change and ISPRIT and  technology.   The think-tank also has representation from all economic Ministries and RBI are expected at the meeting.
